Composting Do's and Dont's

Making your own compost can help preserve nature and can be rewarding for your plants. Rich nutrients get locked in your compost conditioning the soil resulting in healthy plants.

Tips for Success!

Below tips are from our own experiences and tryouts.

Setting up

Making sure your composting turns out well. Use browns and greens in 50:50 ratio. If the greens are more than the browns, it will lead to anaerobic waste which will lead to foul smell and increase in pathogens. Every time your compost feels too wet, use browns to offset the ratio.

Managing

Manage your compost by turning it around every 15days. This leads to passing of oxygen which will keep the mix aerated. If your compost is dry then you will need to wet it a little so it starts breaking down. Adding green waste can help you break down the browns. Which will give you a more balanced mix.

Curing

Once the material is broken down to soil level. Its a good practice to dry the compost in sun, which will help curate the mix. This will also suppress bad bacteria and can give you a sanitised mix. Ready mix should not have a foul smell.

Using

Always use compost in a healthy way. Don't over compost plants. Use them as per the pot size and the age of the plant.
